📊 VWAP Mastery
Learn how VWAP can help identify strength, weakness, recovery confirmation, and safer averaging decisions.
1) What VWAP Means
It shows the average price of a stock based on both price and trading volume during the session. Many traders use VWAP as an intraday fairness line: above VWAP often shows strength, below VWAP often shows weakness.
- ✓ Above VWAP: buyers may be controlling the session.
- ! Below VWAP: sellers may still be controlling the session.
- ✓ VWAP reclaim: possible recovery confirmation.
- ! VWAP rejection: possible failed recovery attempt.
2) VWAP Recovery Logic
When price stays below VWAP, averaging down is risky because sellers may still be in control.
- ✕ Avoid blind averaging.
- ✕ Wait for reclaim or support confirmation.
A reclaim happens when price moves from below VWAP to above VWAP and holds.
- ✓ Wait for close above VWAP.
- ✓ Confirm with volume.
If price stays above VWAP and pulls back without breaking it, the setup becomes cleaner.
- ✓ VWAP acts like support.
- ✓ Better risk area for recovery entries.
3) VWAP Entry Checklist
- 1 Price was previously below VWAP.
- 2 Price reclaims VWAP with a strong candle.
- 3 Volume increases during reclaim.
- 4 Pullback holds VWAP as support.
- 5 Stop-loss can be placed below VWAP or swing low.
- 6 If price loses VWAP again, the recovery idea weakens.
4) VWAP Rejection Warning
If price touches VWAP and fails repeatedly, it may mean sellers are defending that area. In that case, averaging down can become dangerous.
- ! Multiple rejection wicks near VWAP.
- ! Red candles with higher volume after touching VWAP.
- ! Price fails to close above VWAP.
- ✓ Wait for a confirmed close and hold above VWAP.
5) VWAP-Based Recovery Decision
| VWAP Situation | Meaning | Recovery Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Below VWAP and falling | Sellers still strong | Avoid averaging |
| Testing VWAP | Decision zone | Wait for confirmation |
| Reclaims VWAP with volume | Recovery attempt | Watch for possible entry |
| Holds above VWAP | Buyers defending | Better recovery setup |
| Loses VWAP again | Failed recovery | Reduce risk or exit plan |
